Our vibrant
history possesses deep, strong roots reflected in the solemn dignity
of our Aboriginal peoples ceremonial traditions, their artistry
and culture, and re?constructed native villages. Stout stone forts,
timber-walled outposts, and pioneer museums in small towns across
Canada mark centuries old travel routes of fur- trading voyageurs
and early settlers. I once found myself in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan,
enthralled by a display of dozens of historic barbed wire designs
Prairie settlers had invented. Some explorers settlements go back
a thousand years to Newfoundland, where the Vikings first set foot
on North American soil at whats now one of Canadas thirteen World
Heritage Sites LAnse aux Meadows. Share our history with us,
as its retold and relived by descendants of our early explorers
and of our Aboriginal peoples.
